The Birth of the ZEEKR Brand and Market Positioning

ZEEKR Intelligent Technology Holding Limited, known as ZEEKR (Chinese: 极氪; pinyin: Jí kè), is a Chinese automaker founded in March 2021 by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. ZEEKR is positioned as a premium electric vehicle brand, targeting leaders like Tesla and Nio. The name reflects a vision centered on innovation and technology: “ZE” from “Zero,” signaling limitless possibilities; “E” from “Evolving the Electric Era,” marking the evolution of the EV age; and “Kr” from “Krypton,” a noble gas that emits light when energized.

In February 2025, ZEEKR completed a merger with Lynk & Co, another brand under Geely Holding Group, officially forming the ZEEKR Group. This consolidation marked a major strategic move aimed at building a

“Fully Integrated User Ecosystem” and improving efficiency in technology sharing while aligning brand identity globally. Pooling engineering and technology resources on a single platform (the SEA platform) reduces R&D duplication and strengthens both brands in distinct markets. As the “ZEEKR Group,” with nearly 20 models and over 1.8 million customers worldwide, the brand is positioned to challenge major EV manufacturers, particularly in the premium segment.

Before the launch of the ZEEKR 007, the brand built its reputation with standout models such as the ZEEKR 001 (a shooting brake), the luxurious ZEEKR 009 MPV, and the compact ZEEKR X SUV. These products highlight ZEEKR’s commitment to combining cutting-edge technology, premium materials, and refined engineering.

The ZEEKR 007 is the brand’s first sedan and fourth model. It was developed and designed by engineering and design teams in both Sweden and China, led by Head of Design Stefan Sielaff. Its global debut took place at the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 17, 2023, followed by mass production in December, with first deliveries in China on January 1, 2024.

ZEEKR 007 is built on the PMA2+ platform, an evolution of Geely’s highly capable SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture). This EV-dedicated architecture emphasizes maximum safety and optimal cabin space utilization.

The exterior design follows the brand’s new language, “Hidden Energy Design,” prioritizing minimalist aesthetics with latent power. Its most distinctive element is the

ZEEKR STARGATE, an intelligent LED light bar integrated into the front fascia. It spans up to 90 inches and comprises 1,711 high-output LEDs. With peak brightness of 10,000 nits and an industry-leading refresh rate of 30 frames per second, it can render interactive graphics and text.

Beyond the sedan, ZEEKR also introduced a shooting brake variant called the 007 GT in April 2025, tuned for higher driving performance with highlights such as a chassis that is 20–30% stiffer and an active rear spoiler.

Performance and Technical Specifications

The ZEEKR 007 offers multiple performance configurations, including rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), plus different battery options to suit varied user needs.

Powertrain

  • Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): Single permanent-magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle, delivering up to 310 kW (416–422 hp) and 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

  • All-Wheel Drive (AWD): Dual motors with a combined output up to 475 kW (637–646 hp) and total torque of 710 Nm, cutting 0–100 km/h to just

2.84 seconds for the sedan. Reports indicate the 007 GT (shooting brake) with the same dual-motor layout does 0–100 km/h in

2.95 seconds or 3.8 seconds. The discrepancy may stem from software calibration or suspension setup differences between sedan and GT, or from varying test conditions.

Battery and Charging

The ZEEKR 007 uses a high-voltage 800V electrical platform enabling superior fast-charging performance. There are two main battery choices:

  • ZEEKR Golden Battery (LFP): An in-house lithium iron phosphate pack rated at 75 kWh, offering up to 688 km CLTC range. A key highlight is fast charging that can add

610 km in just 15 minutes and charge from 10% to 80% in only 10.5 minutes—among the fastest figures globally for this chemistry.

  • CATL (NMC) Battery: A nickel–manganese–cobalt pack from CATL rated at 100 kWh, with up to 870 km CLTC range.

ZEEKR’s decision to develop and manufacture its own batteries alongside sourcing from a giant like CATL reflects a clear, multifaceted strategy. Owning battery technology reduces reliance on external suppliers, improves production flexibility, and enables differentiated innovations such as the Golden Battery’s impressive energy density and charging speed. This gives ZEEKR a long-term competitive edge and tighter control over future product development.

Body Structure and Chassis

The ZEEKR 007 uses a high-strength steel–aluminum hybrid body and is the first sedan to adopt

Integrated Mega-Casting at the rear, boosting structural strength and reducing torsional flex to

43,500 N·m/deg. The front suspension is a double wishbone, and the rear is a multi-link, complemented by a CCD electromagnetic damping system for ride comfort and control.

Safety and Intelligent Driver Assistance (ADAS)

The ZEEKR 007 is equipped with a comprehensive, advanced ADAS hardware suite with the following sensors:

  • 1 LiDAR

  • 12 high-resolution cameras

  • 5 millimeter-wave radars

  • 12 ultrasonic radars

Computing Platform

At the heart of ADAS are dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-X chips, delivering a combined 508 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second). This immense compute enables accurate, rapid perception and decision-making even in complex scenarios.

Meanwhile, the intelligent cockpit runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 and integrates an AI system called Kr GPT AI, supporting voice commands and smart services like translation, information search, and schedule management.

The choice to separate compute—NVIDIA for driving assistance and Qualcomm for in-cabin infotainment—reflects a thoughtful vehicle architecture. Isolating the “brains” ensures safety-critical functions operate independently and at peak performance, unaffected by potential lags or errors in the infotainment domain. This powerful hardware foundation also future-proofs the ZEEKR 007 for ongoing software upgrades toward higher levels of automated driving.

Leveraging data from the full sensor suite, it assists with navigation on expressways and major urban roads in China, handling complex traffic scenarios with human-like natural behavior.

ZEEKR’s entry into Thailand is strategically executed through the appointment of Millennium Group Corporation (Asia) PCL, or MGC-ASIA, as the official distributor. Partnering with an experienced luxury-automotive group builds brand credibility from the outset.

Currently, MGC-ASIA has begun marketing and delivering other ZEEKR models in Thailand—such as the ZEEKR X and ZEEKR 009—and plans to launch the ZEEKR 7X on August 15, 2025. This steady market activity indicates ZEEKR’s commitment to systematically expanding its Thai product lineup.

Outlook for ZEEKR 007 Sales in Thailand

Although there has been no official announcement from MGC-ASIA regarding the import schedule for the ZEEKR 007 in Thailand, local automotive media and sources have made projections based on the car’s launch timeline in China and other markets.

  • Launch timing: Some Thai outlets predict the ZEEKR 007 GT could debut in Q2 2025, inferred from the global rollout. However, there is still no official confirmation from the Thai distributor.

  • Expected pricing: In China, the ZEEKR 007 starts from 209,900–299,900 yuan (about THB 1.01–1.45 million), a competitive range versus other EVs. Thai price predictions often reference these figures, but actual Thai retail pricing would depend on import duties and other costs, which could materially change the final price.

A key fact is that there has been no official statement from the Thai distributor specifically about the ZEEKR 007. Some circulating claims are highly inaccurate—for example, a website stating that the ZEEKR 007 “has already ended production in Thailand,” which is incorrect since the car has never been officially marketed in Thailand. Such inconsistencies reflect the current lack of clear communication from official Thai channels.

The ZEEKR 007 showcases ZEEKR Group’s innovation and engineering prowess. Its strengths include high-performance dual-motor options, the in-house Golden Battery with ultra-fast 800V charging, a powerful ADAS compute stack, and a robust body structure.

If and when it arrives, the ZEEKR 007 will appeal to Thai buyers seeking a standout electric sedan in performance, design, and technology—especially versus similarly priced rivals like the Tesla Model 3. The sedan profile combined with the futuristic GT-style body (if imported) would offer a distinctive selling point.

For those interested in the ZEEKR 007, it’s best to monitor updates directly from MGC-ASIA, the official Thai distributor, since the current information on launch timing and pricing remains speculative. Still, ZEEKR’s steady expansion in Thailand with other models suggests a strong likelihood the 007 will eventually be marketed locally. When that happens, it is poised to shake up Thailand’s premium EV sedan segment.
