Chic Day Trip Around Wukang Road (Shanghai 2025)
Today's Highlights
- Take a walk along Wukang Road under the shade of lush trees on both sides.
- Stop by the cozy European restaurant Le Verre à Vin.
- Visit or take photos at Jing’an Temple.
- End the evening relaxing and dining at Xintiandi.
-
Getting to Wukang Road (Don’t Get Off at the Wrong Station!)
- Depart at 10:00 AM and take the Subway to Changshu Road (常熟路).
- Be careful! There’s another station with a very similar name, Changshou Road (长寿路). The difference is in the letter u → Changshu vs Changshou.
Tip: Pin “Wukang Road / 武康路” or “Hunan Road / 湖南路” in Amap or Google Maps to avoid spelling mistakes.

From Changshu Road, call a Didi and head to the intersection of Hunan Rd. × Wukang Rd. You’ll arrive around 12:00 PM. Both sides of the street are shaded by big trees — perfect for chic street photography.

Lunch: Le Verre à Vin (Warm Italian Vibes)
- Walk a short distance from the Hunan × Wukang intersection to find Le Verre à Vin — a cozy bistro worth stopping by.
- We ordered a burger and a few simple Italian dishes — all delicious and worth a try!
- Note: The staff may not speak much English, so a bit of hand gestures or showing pictures helps.
Tip: Refuel here before exploring — there are plenty of charming alleys and photo-worthy corners nearby Wukang Road.

The restaurant staff didn’t speak English, so we relied on hand gestures and intuition — it worked fine! The food looked great and tasted amazing. Highly recommended for anyone nearby before continuing your photo walk and light shopping around the area.
3 PM: Off to Jing’an Temple (Close and Convenient)
- Book a Didi from Wukang to Jing’an Temple — about 2.3 km away.
- Fare: around ¥44 (off-peak), taking roughly 15 minutes.
- Entrance fee for foreigners is ¥50 per person, payable via Alipay.
- The temple is simple and elegant. If you mainly want cityscape photos, exploring the outside is enough — no need to pay the entry fee.

Evening at Xintiandi – Walk, Bars & Dim Sum
- From Jing’an, take a short Didi ride to Xintiandi (新天地) — about 2.7 km, roughly 15 minutes.
- This shopping and bar district has a Thonglor-like vibe with a short, lively stretch of outdoor dining spots.
- Dinner at Tao Tao Ju (Cantonese dim sum) — they serve warm tea first, fragrant and soothing, perfect before the meal.
This area has boutique shops and outdoor bars on both sides. The vibe is relaxed and cozy, perfect for a laid-back evening. We ended up dining at Tao Tao Ju right in Xintiandi.

They start by serving warm tea — fragrant and refreshing — setting the perfect tone for our Chinese dinner.

We spent the rest of the evening strolling around the neighborhood before heading back to the hotel — a relaxing end to a lovely day in Shanghai.
