Lifestyle and Travel › Onsen Mon Jam Chiang Mai – Japanese-Style Hot Spring Retreat in the Mountains

Onsen Mon Jam is located in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Inspired by traditional Japanese hot springs, this serene mountain retreat sits about 1,200 meters above sea level, offering a cool climate almost all year round. It’s the perfect getaway for those seeking peace, nature, and the comfort of a natural mineral onsen surrounded by lush greenery.

Opened around 2019–2020, Onsen Mon Jam was designed to blend Japanese culture with the natural charm of Northern Thailand. The architecture incorporates local materials to minimize environmental impact while maintaining a tranquil aesthetic reminiscent of Japan’s traditional mountain retreats.

From downtown Chiang Mai, take Highway 107 (Chiang Mai–Fang) and turn onto Route 1096 toward Mon Jam. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you don’t have a car, you can rent a private car or hire a local taxi from the city to reach the resort.

Room prices vary by season and room type, ranging from 2,500 to 7,000 THB per night. Rates typically include onsen access and breakfast. Guests can choose between standard rooms, suites, or private villas with panoramic mountain views.

The best months to visit are from October to February, during Thailand’s cool season when mountain air is crisp and the onsen experience feels most relaxing.

Onsen Mon Jam is a perfect destination for those who love tranquility, nature, and the unique atmosphere of a Japanese-style retreat amid Northern Thailand’s mountains. It combines comfort, culture, and breathtaking views into one unforgettable experience.
